School EssayWhen I was younger, I went to a surprising number of funerals for my age. They seemed like a normal occurrence, and I rarely knew the people anyway. I remember one funeral I went to for a woman who had been shot by her stepson. My grandparents had known her, so they brought me along. Funerals seemed like a common thing, but they could not touch my family. We were immortal.
Nine days before my bat mitzvah, ten before my birthday, that view of the world changed. I remember that it was a Tuesday, which meant that I had art club after school. I was having a lot of fun, because I was working on making a deck of cards. Afterwards, I saw an ambulance rushing by and I wondered about what had happened. But I did not really care as long as my family was immortal.
After a short bus ride, I arrived at home. I rang the doorbell and waited a moment. Normally when I got home, my mom would greet me cheerfully and give me a snack, but this day she did not. As I entered the house, she spoke. "Becca, go
Watching from afarI look at you.
I'm so stupid for thinking
Even after rejecting me twice
That maybe you'll be interested.
I want to give up, because it's getting a little ridiculous.

I am addicted to boys
And focused on the wrong things,
I ask you
Who is the one
That does not date,
That gets good grades,
That works hard to get both work

The orange gas light blinked mockingly at the woman behind the wheel. It was making fun of her; she knew it was making fun of her. Grabbing the black cellular phone on the passenger seat, she looked at it with full intention of calling somebody to come help her.
“Oh, what the hell?!”
The “no service” sign was mocking her at the same exact time. The horn beeped loudly as she slammed her head against it once again. The day was out to get her in general. She had arrived at all her classes late, and her son was sick with the flu. The babysitter was able to watch him as she went to her late night classes. Giving a heavy sigh, she lifted her head off the wheel to look out the window. Drops of water pooled on the windshield as rain started to fall in a pitter-patter pattern. She didn’t quite understand the message th
